Trainees will be required to train within two consecutive age ranges, which typically covers Key Stages 3 and 4, and across all ability levels. Thomas Telford School acts as the Lead School and is the base for the Education and Professional Issues component of the programme.

Trainees will spend a minimum of 20 days in a contrasting second school to help gain a wider knowledge and understanding of learning and teaching. Trainees also spend time in a Primary school to develop their knowledge of both Key Stage 2 and transition into Key Stage 3. School Based Training (Salaried) trainees are required to complete a series of short academic assignments as part of their studies, including a Comparative Study between their Training School and School 2 placements
