R1.1 Entrants have achieved a standard equivalent to a Grade C in the GCSE examination in English and mathematics.

Certificates checked at interview. If unavailable must be seen at registration. Equivalence checked against Training & Development Agency / QCA guidance. Overseas qualifications equivalence confirmed by NARIC – cost met by the applicant.

R1.2 Entrants hold a first degree of a UK HEI or equivalent qualification.

R1.3 CRB Enhanced disclosure check and suitability disclosure.

Initiated at interview and applied for as soon as the offer of a place is accepted. Previous CRB check cannot be considered.

R1.4 Have taken part in an interview designed to assess their suitability to teach

All applicants have an individual interview with a panel containing two Consortium staff. Usually the Subject Course Tutor and a Subject Mentor from a Consortium School .

R1.5a Have the intellectual and academic capabilities needed to meet QTS Standards

Subject Specific evidence at interview – D&T / ICT: portfolio of work, PE: practical activity, MFL: required oral in target language during interview etc.

R1.5b Possess the appropriate qualities, attitudes and values expected of a teacher

1.5c Entrants can read effectively, and are able to communicate clearly and accurately in Standard English.

Written Task and PowerPoint Presentation as part of the interview.

R1.5d Entrants have met the Secretary of State's Requirements for physical and mental fitness to teach.

Health declaration form – plus follow-up information with specialists as required.
